Abstract

A series of new isoxazoles 5a-f were prepared by reaction of propenones 4 with hydroxylamine hydrochloride while the propenones 4a-f were
prepared by the condensation of 2, 6 – dichloro -1- (N-substituted phenyl)-1, 4 –dihydropyridine -3, 5 – dicarbaldehydes 3 with different aromatic
ketones. The structures of the newly synthesized compounds have been confirmed on the basis of elemental analysis and spectral studies. The
newly synthesized title compounds have been screened for their in vitro antimicrobial activities. Some of the compounds exhibited encouraging
results
